Dance & Create | Coral Rites Album Release Party
February 1 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
$25.00This February, Dance/Create celebrates local spoken word artist, Coral Rites, in the debut of their first album, Something Softer than Saturn. The album is an extension and expansion of their printed collection of poetry by the same name. Join us in the exploration of what a softer world could look like.
Dance/Create is a mixed media movement experience offered by local artist, Shauna Yorty.
Dance/Create events invite us to dive deep into our own experience as we listen to an album from beginning to end. We freely move throughout the space, working with mixed media art supplies and our bodies to join the music, and honor what moves us. We trust our bodies, the music, and the process to be our guides.
Please arrive promptly at 1:30PM for settling in and orienting to the space. We will begin with introductions and gathering our supplies, followed by a body/space check-in led by Shauna.
Once the album starts, we will drop into our own experience of moving and making. Following the album, we will have an opportunity for tying up loose ends on our art piece as well as time for sharing/discussion. Coral will provide a quick practice before we leave to help integrate and release anything that came up during our creative time together.

About the Artist: Coral Rites is a spoken word artist known for creating visceral pathways through deep emotional and systemic processing. They invite the listener to tap into their own experiences for reflection and consideration and consider their own place and purpose within the universal tapestry and how to take steps towards bringing collective visions to fruition. Coral finds inspiration from wildly different sources, including the worms for composting collectively known as the Squirm Squad. Above all, they pull inspiration from their own heart, rooted in the context of the human and other-than-human communities around them. Connect with Coral on IG: @Coral_Rites
Coral Rites also serves as the volunteer Organizational Director of Discerning Eye Community Agriculture (DECA), which is an organization that works towards true food and wellness access by reimagining and rebuilding the systems and structures within Lancaster County and through connecting individuals, organizations and communities working towards the same visions of collective transformative action. About the Album: Something Softer than Saturn is an extension and expansion of Coral’s printed collection of poetry by the same name, released on the same day. The musical album explores different subgenres, styles and textures of Electronica – but at its core provides an emotional and evocative backdrop which brings Coral’s words alive. It is produced by local spoken word artist, activist and producer, Circumstantial Saint (IG: @circumstantial_saint). Hard copies of Coral’s poetry collection will be for sale at the event and will contain a discount code for a – nearly free – download of the musical album.
